Today's Listening Session: Steve Van Hoecke "Zahle"

Steve Van Hoecke's "Zahle" is what Peaceful Pieces is all about. The piece brings to life such beauty in its own right. Some of the most touching songs are proven to be those without lyrics. Hoecke lets his instruments tell the story. I'm so enthralled I'm at a loss for words.

Today's Listening Session: Bassline Drift "Drink the Water"

Bassline Drift has proven to be quite a musical find. The singer's voice is glorious and stunning as it floats through space. Marvelous beats are accompanied by notable basslines that lend the help from on-point vocal harmonies. I am intrigued to hear more from this duo who are proving to be a mainstay in my speakers.

Today's Listening Session: Barbara Lusch "Rock Me Sweet"

Barbara Lusch is a lovely combination of sophistication and sexy. Her latest recording "Rock Me Sweet" is a reinterpretation of loved 80's rock anthems, which brings the hits of Springsteen, Jovi and U2, to make a record that is straight from the heart. This unique recording has garnered the praise of many, myself included. To pull off these classic hits while making them her own is an incredible feat all of its own. Bravo to Barbara Lusch for breathing new life into these rock n' roll classics. Enjoy "Hot Blooded" one of my personal favorites from the album.

Today's Listening Session: Tom Levin "Mind's Eye"

Representing Sweden is folk-crossover artist, Tom Levin. Recently sharing his song "Mind's Eye", I find the single to be both honest, well-written and true to form. The piece is from "Them Buffalo" his newest endeavor. My favorite element of Tom Levin's vocals is the subtle charm throughout the track. Musically the song uses acoustic guitars and handclaps, which quickly move into a string section.

Today's Listening Session: Sit Kitty Sit

Sit Kitty Sit are a rock duo that is along the likes of Dresden Dolls, King Crimson and Fiona Apple. All which happen to be favorites of mine. Currently on tour, the group make a mixture of pop and prog rock that I haven't heard much of anywhere else. Their sound will draw you in for sure. "Everlasting Fire" is their latest album and they are sharing their cool new video for "Birmingham" which you can see below. "Birmingham"

Today's Listening Session: Lindsay Mac "Remember"

Crossing genres is never an easy to take on, though Lindsay Mac seems to have gotten the hang of it. Her new single "Remember" lives up to the name with a dose of Pop in the mix. The track is not over the top, and is most definitely an enjoyable one. “I wanted my own music to be a physical experience again - to emulate that feeling where it just seeps into your body and you feel it in your chest,” tells Lindsay Mac.

Fractal Control: Spiritually Hits Home

Mike Louttit is Fractal Control. Lately I have been shedding my realm, and expanding into new territory. Opening my musical brain I have become open to new and different music that not only tells a story but captures my attention. Fractal Control plays instrumental heavy rock that appeals to a wide realm. One of the most notable things about the story behind the new record "Disconnection Equals Freedom" is the use of political statement...without the use of any words. All feelings are portrayed through Mike Louttit's guitar. Fascinating from start to finish, this polished piece of work is a statement both musically and socially. The labor of love is evident Fractal Control's latest single "Starved for Change" which is available now. https://soundcloud.com/fractalcontrol/starved-for-change

Today's Listening Session: Ewa Angeli "In Night's Still Silence"

Ewa Angeli proves that there is heaven on earth. In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season her angel-like voice ebbs and flows throughout her new release, "In Night's Still Silence." Being of Polish descent myself, this album hit close to home with me. Ewa Angeli's beautifully accomplished work on this record is worth the listen. Ewa has taken traditional Polish songs and translated them into English. The music that presented is a touching array of songs that will enlighten your holidays.

Today's Listening Session: JES "Sky Stand Still"

JES is a name to watch out for in the world of music. Her musical background is outstanding and it is interesting how she has come out of a dance music oriented background, and has provided a new sound with the single “Sky Stand Still,” from The Principle Movie. JES voice is strong and vivid and the lyrics speak volumes in what she is trying to portray for the film. JES’ new sound is sweet on the ears and at the same time brings a lot of impact.

Today's Listening Session: Ewen Queffeleant "JBF Composition de Ewen Queffeleant"

Ewen Queffeleant has proven to be quite a find. His classical guitar playing is played along with an accordion that has a mind of its own. This reminds me of my youth, growing up in an old Italian neighborhood in my parent's home in the Bronx. It brings back musical tradition with a sense and texture of a new life. Touching.

Today's Listening Session: 1001 Ways "Dream Come True"

1001 Ways "Dream Come True," is a bit out of the normal for me, but as I try to expand my musical horizons I think that this song fits well into what this blog is a reflection of. The song has a slight pop, or commercial edge if you will, but keeps within the cool-tone that I enjoy. This is definitely not for all but I find it to be enjoyable, and hope you will open your mind and do the same.
